TCLtv+, the flagship streaming service from leading consumer electronics company TCL, proudly announces the release of its first-ever AI Sci-Fi film short, “Message in a Bot.” Premiering today on YouTube and X platforms, the film will also be available on the TCLtv+ streaming service starting July 22nd. This release follows the recent AI Film Machine pipeline program announcement and the upcoming AI-powered love story, “Next Stop Paris,” set to debut later this summer. TCL is making significant strides in AI, distinguishing itself from other streamers and OEMs by developing original content.

Message in a Bot explores the intriguing scenario of an alien craft crash landing on Earth with advanced technology and instructions, prompting humanity to build and launch an interstellar spacecraft to make contact. The short film was conceived and animated in-house at TCLtv+ global studios, originally developed as a research project to test new AI advancements. Animator Erik Howell, credited as an EP along with TCL Chief Content Officer Chris Regina and Chief Creative Officer Daniel Smith, discovered and brought the project to life.

Erik Howell, an MFA graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, has extensive experience in production roles for TV and film. His latest short film, “The Confession,” entirely created with AI, won “Best AI Film” and “Best Narrative Short” at the 2024 AI International Film Festival.

“The ‘Message in a Bot’ workflow was fast, highly creative, and well-received, moving quickly to the top of the development queue.” TCLtv+ enlisted experienced Hollywood VFX professionals from Marvel, Star Wars, and other top action franchises to join its AI animation team.

FILM MACHINE Pipeline Program

Last month, TCLtv+ launched its first film accelerator program, FILM MACHINE, addressing financing, mentorship, and distribution challenges faced by AI filmmakers. Applications are available at TCLFilmMachine. Award-winning filmmaker Dave Clark, a key advisor for the program, has pioneered the use of AI in storytelling and is a sought-after industry voice.

Despite its impressive roster, TCLtv+ Studios seeks to fill open roles with mid-career talent, emphasizing the need for industry upskilling. The studio is well-positioned to leverage cutting-edge technology across various formats, including AI and traditional scripted and unscripted projects, with collaborations extending beyond TCLtv+ Studios to include guild writers, actors, and Hollywood talent.
