Tablo DVR Maker Is Looking Into an ATSC 3.0 DVR, But Not Yet…

ATSC 3.0 next-gen over-the-air TV is one of the hottest topics in the world of cord cutting right now. The new standard will start rolling out later this year in 60 US markets offering 4K, better audio, and better reception to antenna TV users.

The issue here is you need a new tuner and right now no DVR manufacturer officially supports the new ATSC 3.0 standard. According to TechHive, Nuvyyo, the makers of the Tablo over-the-air DVR, are looking into making a DVR.

Nuvyyo says they will continue to make their current line of DVRs but are looking into a device that would support both the current over-the-air TV standard and the next-gen ATSC 3.0 standard. Nuvyyo even went as far as to hint that they may have something to show off at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2021.

Tablo is not the only DVR manufacturer looking into ATSC 3.0. TiVo showed off an adapter for their current TiVo DVRs to add ATSC 3.0 last year. That was just a proof of concept device and no plans have been announced to officially roll out an ATSC 3.0 DVR from TiVo.

We are still in the wait and see mode for DVRs to support the new over the air standard, but DVR manufacturers are at least looking into it.
