Many longtime T-Mobile customers will soon find themselves on a new phone plan with a higher monthly bill.
The Mobile Report broke the news about forced plan migrations Monday morning, specifying that “Simple Choice and ONE plan customers will be moved off of their grandfathered plans and onto more modern plans.” T-Mobile hasn’t yet shared exactly which plans will be affected, but it’s likely that Magenta plans and grandfathered Sprint plans will also be migrated.
Customers are being notified about the upcoming changes now and plan and price changes will come with the next billing cycle. Those customers will be moved to newer plans which include Essentials, Essentials Saver, Experience More, Experience Beyond and Better Value.
There’s no action required for customers. The migration will happen automatically and the change is mandatory, with no option to stick with an older plan.
Messages to customers note that customers will keep current benefits, with more benefits added for the newer plans. The new plans will also include T-Mobile’s 5-Year Price Guarantee.
The Mobile Report shared this comment from a representative for T-Mobile: “We’re retiring our oldest plans, some of which were built nearly 15 years ago – in the 3G and 4G eras, and well before our 5G network was fully deployed. Customers will transition to modern plans that provide access to America’s best wireless technology, enhanced features and a 5-year price guarantee for peace of mind. Some customers will see no change to their monthly bill, while some will see a modest adjustment. Every customer moved to a new plan will keep their current benefits while gaining improvements in network and service experiences.”
Internally, T-Mobile is calling the move a system cleanup that will eliminate over a thousand billing codes by moving customers to newer plans.
