T-Mobile customers expecting to log on to MLS Season Pass to watch Lionel Messi play will be sorely disappointed: The perk is no more.
The wireless carrier confirmed to Cord Cutters News that there are no plans to offer access to MLS Season Pass. CNET Editor Eli Blumenthal first reported on the change.
This comes as the new season kicked off on Wednesday, with multiple matches set for this weekend. MLS Season Pass was one of the freebies offered to T-Mobile customers last season, which was the first offered by Apple TV. The league saw an upsurge in popularity thanks to the addition of soccer living legend Messi, who immediately energized Inter Miami and all of MLS, and brought throngs of new fans and viewers aboard.
It’s one of a number of big changes that T-Mobile has made with some of the different perks to its plans. In January, the company shifted many of its subscribers who had free Netflix onto the ad-based plan, with customers offered a discounted rate to upgrade to a higher tier. Subscribers of certain plans, however, got the addition of perks such as Hulu and Apple TV+. This also follows a wider reboot of its customer loyalty program, now rebranded as Magenta Status.
