T-Mobile reports that it’s conducting tests of faster 5G speeds that could rival fiber.
In one test a Samsung Galaxy S25 running test software leveraging T-Mobile’s 5G network reached downlink speeds of 4.3 Gbps in “real-world conditions.” In a second test, a Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF on a mobile test device showed fasted speeds of 6.3 Gbps. For comparison, AT&T Fiber advertises top speeds of 5 Gbps.
“With 6-Carrier Aggregation, we’re not just adding another feather to our cap—we’re accelerating the future of 5G Advanced,” said Ulf Ewaldsson, president of technology for T-Mobile US. “This milestone isn’t just about speed; it’s about building a network that delivers exactly what our customers need—unparalleled performance, reliability, and innovation.”
Both tests used Nokia 5G RAN equipment.

Today’s press release about the testing emphasizes that the tests were performed “in real-world field conditions” to show that the network can not only hit peak speeds in perfect conditions but also showing that the company is focused on how faster speeds will benefit customers in the real world. T-Mobile says the tests are “laying the foundation for future innovation.”
