Telecom giant T-Mobile US Inc. (Nasdaq: TMUS) is making waves in the broadband industry with its latest move to acquire Minnetonka-based U.S. Internet, a prominent Twin Cities internet service provider known for its robust fiber network across Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs. The acquisition, announced via a letter to U.S. Internet customers, marks a significant step in T-Mobile’s aggressive push to expand its T-Mobile Fiber Home Internet service, positioning the company as a formidable player in the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) market.

The letter, sent earlier this month, informed U.S. Internet customers that their provider is joining forces with T-Mobile. “Although the closing date for our transaction has not yet been set, we anticipate that following regulatory approval, you’ll become a T-Mobile customer on or after Sept. 2,” the letter stated. While financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, and officials from both T-Mobile and U.S. Internet were unavailable for immediate comment, the acquisition aligns with T-Mobile’s broader strategy to enhance its fiber internet footprint nationwide.

T-Mobile officially launched its Fiber Home Internet service on June 5, 2025, following its April acquisition of Lumos, a High Point, North Carolina-based fiber provider, in a joint venture with global investment firm EQT. The Lumos deal, valued at approximately $950 million for a 50% equity stake, brought 475,000 households across the Mid-Atlantic into T-Mobile’s fiber network, with plans to reach 3.5 million homes by 2028. Building on this momentum, T-Mobile finalized a $4.9 billion joint venture with KKR in July 2025 to acquire Metronet, a leading fiber provider serving over 2 million homes and businesses across 17 states. These strategic acquisitions are part of T-Mobile’s ambitious goal to reach 12 to 15 million households with fiber internet by 2030, complementing its industry-leading 5G Home Internet service, which already serves nearly 7 million customers nationwide.

The acquisition of U.S. Internet strengthens T-Mobile’s presence in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, where U.S. Internet has built a reputation for delivering high-speed, reliable fiber connectivity. Customers can expect a seamless transition to T-Mobile Fiber Home Internet, which offers plans ranging from 500 Mbps to 2 Gbps, with no equipment fees, installation charges, or annual contracts. A standout feature is T-Mobile’s five-year price guarantee, with a limited-time Fiber Founders Club plan offering 2 Gbps speeds for $70/month with a 10-year price lock in select areas. Additionally, customers gain access to T-Mobile’s signature perks, such as T-Mobile Tuesdays, which provides weekly discounts and freebies via the T-Life app.

As T-Mobile continues to disrupt the broadband market, the acquisition of U.S. Internet underscores its commitment to challenging industry giants like AT&T and Verizon. With a growing fiber footprint and a customer-centric model, T-Mobile is poised to redefine high-speed internet access across the U.S. For more information on availability, visit fiber.t-mobile.com.
