Cheerful family having popcorn while watching television at homeBack in December T-Mobile announced plans to “disrupt” traditional pay TV. Now it looks like they are one step closer as they close their deal to buy Layer3 TV.

“We know people love their TV, but hate their TV providers. But, the reaction to our announcement last month took even me by surprise. People are ready for choice and change! Well, good news ‘cause that’s exactly what we’re gonna bring!” said John Legere, President and CEO of T-Mobile. “I can’t wait to take the fight to Big Cable and Satellite TV on behalf of consumers everywhere!”

According to reports, T-Mobile plans to use Layer3 TV to be the backbone of their new TV service. This will allow T-Mobile to get a jump start on their service without the need to start from scratch.

Here is the original announcement from T-Mobile:

“People love their TV, but they hate their TV providers. And worse, they have no real choice but to simply take it – the crappy customer service, clunky technology and outrageous bills loaded with fees! That’s where we come in. We’re gonna fix the pain points and bring real choice to consumers across the country,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “It only makes sense for the Un-carrier to do to TV what we’re doing to wireless: change it for good! Personally, I can’t wait to start fighting for consumers here!”

Exactly what this service will be is still unknown. So far all we know is T-Mobile plans to launch a “disruptive TV service” in 2018. With this being T-Mobile it is unlike to be a traditional TV service but at this time we still do not know exactly what this service will look like.
