idol-saltlakecity-landingGetting an Internet connection is still an important part of being a cord cutter; however, for now many are limited to their phone or cable company.

Thankfully for millions out there with limited options Google has a plan. They will soon offer ultra-fast wireless Internet in many cities around the United States.

“We are working to test the viability of a wireless network that relies on newly available spectrum,” a company representative tells Business Insider. “The project is in early stages today, but we hope this technology can one day help deliver more abundant Internet access to consumers.”

“Google plans to deploy initially in Atwater, California, Mountain View, California, Palo Alto, California, San Bruno, California, San Francisco, California, San Jose, California, Boulder, Colorado, Kansas City, Kansas, Omaha, Nebraska, Raleigh, North Carolina, Provo, Utah, and Reston, Virginia,” according to the filing.

The best part of this plan is it removes the need for Google to tackle the most time consuming and expensive part of their Google fiber service. That is the tedious work of laying cables to every house and every city. Now Google can use a series of wireless nodes to broadcast the Internet wirelessly, allowing Google to quickly roll out their Internet service to new cities in a fraction of the time it would take them to wire just one city.

For now the service is in its early stage but Google is hoping to quickly roll out the service as soon as testing is finished.
