Stranger ThingsThe surprise hit of the summer is “Stranger Things” from Netflix. We have some new numbers that show just how popular Netflix’s new hit show really is.

Parrot Analytics, a service that tracks streaming of digital titles and their popularity, “measures and predicts demand for content through cutting-edge technology and data science.”

According to their stats, “Stranger Things” topped 42,000,000 in audience members, which is higher than even “Mr. Robot” at 38,166,701, which premiered between August 28 and September 3. “Stranger Things” even topped “Game of Thrones,” which had 32,776,515 viewers.

A 42-million-person audience is something many networks can just dream about, because many shows are lucky to hit a million viewers.

Not only is “Stranger Things dominating traditional shows, but it is by far the most popular show on Netflix right now. “Narcos” hit just 11,088,423 viewers, and “Orange Is the New Black” had just 8,391,050 viewers.

If these numbers are true, it would show that Netflix’s gamble on original content over a larger catalog is paying off. Not only do originals appear to be a hit with subscribers, but the original shows are driving excitement that could lead to new subscribers.
