Fans of early 2000s TV drama are getting a bigger dose of familiar comfort shows this month as Start TV reshapes parts of its weekday and weekend lineup.
The biggest addition is Veronica Mars, the cult mystery drama starring Kristen Bell. The series joins the network beginning Monday, May 18, airing weeknights at 10 p.m. ET/PT. For longtime fans, it’s another chance to revisit Neptune, California and the teen detective who somehow balanced high school drama with murder investigations. For newer viewers, it’s an opportunity to finally see why the show developed such a loyal following years after its original run ended.
Created by Rob Thomas, “Veronica Mars” originally aired from 2004 to 2008 on UPN and later The CW. The series followed Bell’s title character as she worked alongside her private investigator father solving crimes in their wealthy coastal town. The show became known for blending weekly mysteries with season-long storylines and sharp dialogue that still gets quoted online today.
Start TV is also making room for longer blocks of two of its most recognizable series, proving once again that viewers apparently never get tired of Halliwell sisters or Stars Hollow coffee runs.
Beginning May 19, Charmed expands into a five-hour Tuesday daytime block running from noon to 5 p.m. ET/PT. Then, starting May 23, Saturdays become almost entirely dedicated to “Charmed” and Gilmore Girls. The network will air eight straight hours of “Charmed” from noon to 8 p.m., followed by five consecutive episodes of “Gilmore Girls” from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The updated lineup also keeps many of the network’s existing procedural and drama staples in place, including The Closer, Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles and Cold Case.
