Do you have a Spectrum home security system? Sadly, Spectrum has confirmed to WCPO that starting February 5, 2020, they will be shutting down their home security product that they acquired when they purchased Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks.

If you have Spectrum home security, the bad news is all the equipment you paid for is now worthless because it is not compatible with other home security companies.

“We have made the decision to exit the Home Security business that we inherited with the 2016 Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks transactions. We are dedicated to making this a smooth transition for our Home Security customers and have partnered with Ring and Abode, two leading home security providers, to bring our customers exclusive offers and discounts on replacement security service and products,” Spectrum said in a statement to WCPO.

For now, you can continue to use the Spectrum home security system you have, but in less than a month that system will stop working. Some customers who paid hundreds for their equipment are getting offered a $200 discount on a Ring home security system, but from there it is up to the Spectrum customer to install the new system or find a new provider.

As with all services, there is always the risk that it will shut down. It can be hard if you are on the wrong side of a service that is ending support, but the good news is there are many new options to pick from.
