Spectrum is closing nine stores tomorrow, Cord Cutters News has confirmed.
The stores are located on the East Coast and Midwest, ranging from New York to as far south as Missouri.
The closures are a sign — albeit a small one — that more customers are relying on Spectrum’s website to sign up for services, with these stores largely around as a place to pick up and drop-off equipment. The nine stores represent just a tiny fraction of the more than 700 stores the cable giant operates throughout the country. In major cities, Spectrum stores are still busy dealing with customer service questions and selling new services such as packages that include wireless service or higher speed internet.
“We periodically review customer activity at our portfolio of more than 700 stores to ensure we’re delivering the best service to our more than 32 million customers,” said a company spokesman. “We have added more than 70 additional Spectrum stores and remodeled hundreds more since launching Spectrum Mobile, and we are working with the employees who work at the small number of stores we are closing to find other opportunities within the company wherever possible.”
In the third quarter, Spectrum added nearly 600,000 wireless customers and 63,000 internet customers, even as it lost 320,000 TV subscribers. The company is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results next week.
