Spectrum Cable TV Needs to Renew Its Contract With Paramount-Owned TV Channels & Bally Sports RSNs Soon

Are you a Spectrum cable TV customer? Unless Spectrum reaches a new deal you could lose some Paramount and RSN channels this spring. Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, has a renewal coming up with Bally Sports and Paramount. If they fail to reach deals, we could see a second and third round of massive channel blackouts similar to what happened with Disney last fall.

Maybe the biggest of these fights is with Paramount, which will reportedly see its TV contract with Spectrum end this spring. If a new deal is not reached, channels like MTV, Nickelodeon, CBS Sports, and BET could go dark.

Also, Bally Sports RSNs could go dark on Spectrum cable TV since its TV contract is also expected to end this spring if a new deal is not reached. Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports, reached a deal in December to keep its RSNs on Comcast and DIRECTV. Now they will have to make a similar deal with Spectrum.

Spectrum has been pushing back against high costs of cable TV networks. This recently resulted in Spectrum customers losing some Disney channels but gaining access to Disney+ and, later, ESPN+ as part of their TV packages.

The question now is, will Paramount be open to a similar deal as Disney did that could result in some Paramount TV networks leaving Spectrum in exchange for Paramount+ being added to its TV packages.

No details of the talks are available, and the exact date of when these channels could go dark in the spring of 2024 is unknown.
