Are you a Spectrum cable TV customer and want to watch ESPN? Recently, Spectrum started to email its customers to let them know they are offering a special deal with Fubo. With this deal, Spectrum TV customers can get 30% off the live TV streaming service Fubo for two months. This means you can get the Pro plan for just $56.24, down from the typical list price of $74.99 a month.
This comes as Spectrum says Fubo is now its preferred streaming TV partner in messages to its subscribers.
Disney-owned channels went dark on Spectrum, the second-largest cable TV provider in the United States last week. This left 14 million TV subscribers unable to watch college football on ESPN during week one.
To get this deal, you need to check your email, as the only way to signup for this deal is to click the link in the email from Spectrum offering this discount. With this deal, you can get Fubo’s $99.99 Ultimate plan with NFL Red Zone included for $69.99 a month.
So why is this all happening? At the core of this fight seems to be Disney’s plans to launch a direct-to-consumer streaming service for ESPN. Now Spectrum is asking Disney to agree to let Spectrum sell bundles of its streaming services at discounted prices. According to Spectrum, this new model “creates the pathway for Disney to stabilize its linear losses and grow its DTC business, ultimately preserving cash flows.”
Spectrum is arguing it is helping to fund the creation of streaming services that are killing cable TV. Now Spectrum wants Disney to give its customers the streaming services it argues it helped pay for.
With Spectrum agreeing to offer two months of discounts on Fubo, it sounds like Spectrum is expecting this to be a long fight with Disney.
