Sony and TCL announced the beginning of a partnership today that, if completed, would establish a joint venture that would see TCL with a 51% stake and Sony with a 49% stake, set to launch in April 2027.
The new joint venture would be a global business for developing, designing, manufacturing, and selling products including televisions and home audio equipment.
The two companies are coming together to create new, innovative products to grow each company by leveraging the strengths of each. The products will leverage Sony’s picture and audio technology and brand recognition, combined with TCL’s display technology and ability to scale globally with cost-effect supply chain capabilities. According to Sony’s press release Tuesday, the products will be labeled with the Sony Bravia name.
“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with TCL for a strategic partnership, said Kimio Maki, Representative Director, President and CEO, Sony Corporation. “By combining both companies’ expertise, we aim to create new customer value in the home entertainment field, delivering even more captivating audio and visual experiences to customers worldwide.”
DU Juan, Chairperson, TCL Electronics Holdings Limited added, “We believe that this strategic partnership with Sony represents a unique opportunity to combine the strengths of Sony and TCL, creating a powerful platform for sustainable growth. Through strategic business complementarity, technology and know-how sharing, and operational integration, we expect to elevate our brand value, achieve greater scale, and optimize the supply chain in order to deliver superior products and services to our customers.”
