Today Viacom has announced that it has purchased rights to air the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning show Seinfeld on cable from Sony Pictures. This gives Viacom exclusive cable TV rights for all 180 episodes of the iconic series beginning in October 2021. With this deal, you will begining in late 2021 find Seinfeld airing on Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land.
“We’re extremely proud to bring this little-known series to our viewers. With the right programming and promotion, we believe we’ll finally get Seinfeld the recognition it truly deserves, as merely the greatest sitcom of all-time,” said Kent Alterman, President of Comedy Central, Paramount Network, TV Land and Vandelay Industries.
Sadly no word on if this Seinfeld will be coming to Pluto TV. Recently Sony sold streaming rights to Netflix starting in 2021 so no other paid streaming service like Netflix can have Seinfeld during that contract. No word on if that contract would limit free services like Pluto TV. Viacom did say Seinfeld will stream on Viacom’s authenticated video on demand, websites, and apps.
The good news is if your live TV streaming service has Viacom channels you may soon be able to stream Seinfeld for free through Viacom’s apps.
