Sony Crackle is Now Crackle Plus As New Owners Take Over

Back in March, it was announced that Sony Pictures Television is selling Sony Crackle to Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment the company that also runs Popcornflix and other streaming services. Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment will own a majority of Crackle and Sony will, in turn, receive 4 million worth of stock in Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment.

Now that that sale is complete and Sony Crackle is now owned by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, they have renamed it to Crackle Plus. (Some apps still show the same as Sony Crackle. Updates will be rolling out with the new branding soon.)

Sony agreed to license Sony movies and TV shows to Crackle but will no longer be the majority owner. Sony is also supplying technical support for the joint venture as part of this deal. Crackle will now be called Crackle Plus dropping Sony from the name.

Have you noticed any changes now that Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment now owns Crackle? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of the move.
