Scissors cutting a computer wire on gray background (wireless or blackout concept)We’re back with another comparison post update, giving you the details about two streaming services that have recently made some changes. These posts break down each of the two services to help you decide which is the right choice for you.

Today, we’re taking a look at Sling Blue with the new Total TV deal and PlayStation Vue.

Plans and Pricing

When subscribing to Sling TV, you can choose between Sling Orange and Sling Blue. Both have a regular price of $25 per month. Recently, Sling introduced the Total TV Deal. That deal offers seven of Sling’s add-on channels, along with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage for an extra $20/month. That brings the total of Sling Blue and the Total TV Deal to $45/month. (You’ll pay the same price for Sling Orange + the Total TV Deal.)

PlayStation Vue has a few different plan options to choose from. Recently, the streaming service increased the price of each of their plans by $5. These are your options when you sign up, with those new prices.

Channel and Price Comparison

When comparing streaming services, comparing the cost per channel is one way to take a look at the value you’re getting.

With Sling Blue + the Total TV Deal, you’ll pay $45 per month for 107 channels. That brings the cost per channel to $0.42 per channel.

The PlayStation Vue Core package now costs $54.99 for 79 channels, making the cost about 70 cents per channel.

Channels

Comparing the cost per channel of each service is helpful, but not if you’re choosing a service without the channels you watch most often. Here’s what you’ll get from both options.

These are the channels you’ll get with Sling Blue + the Total TV Deal. (Note: while the 7 add-ons are the same with the Sling Orange + Total TV Deal, the channels you’ll get will vary slightly.)

Sports Add-On

Kids Add-On

News Add-On

Lifestyle Add-on

Heartland Add-On

Hollywood Add-On

Comedy Add-On

And these are the channels you’ll get with a PlayStation Vue Core plan:

Simultaneous Viewing

Sling Blue allows for up to 3 streams at the same time. If you were to combine Sling Blue and Sling Orange, you would add 1 additional simultaneous stream to that.

PlayStation Vue will let you watch 5 streams simultaneously. However, you can only watch on 3 away from your home area, including smartphones and tablets.

Cloud DVR

Along with the seven add-ons, the Total TV deal from Sling TV includes the Cloud DVR add-on. With that add-on, you’ll get 50 hours of DVR storage, the ability to record and watch live TV, fast forward through commercials, keep your recordings for as long as you’re a customer, and record multiple shows at once.

Your PlayStation Vue Core subscription comes with “unlimited” Cloud DVR storage that will allow you to record up to 500 programs. Your content will be saved for 28 days.
