Locast is a free streaming service that offers locals online for free in a select number of cities. Now Sling TV is emailing their subscribers in areas that offer Locast as an option to get locals without the need for an antenna.
Sling TV has long promoted their service as a great add-on to your antenna. With services offering locals now starting at $40 a month, Sling TV still costs just $25 by not including the expensive ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC locals.
Now customers in Denver, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, and New York can use Locast to get locals for free and use Sling TV to access networks like ESPN and the NFL Network. The best part is now Locast offers a Roku Channel to stream your locals through your Roku TV or player.
In a statement sent to Cord Cutters News, Sling TV said, “In markets where we offer local channels, our preference is that consumers use Sling TV. However, because we want consumers to have the best overall experience, we are supportive of other independent solutions to access local channels, whether it’s through an over-the-air antenna paired with AirTV, direct-to-consumers apps like CBS All Access or Univision Now or a solution like Locast.”
So, if you live in one of the markets that offers Locast you may want to look at Sling TV as a way to get some of the cable networks you are looking for.
