Sling TV Lost 100,000 Subscribers in Q1 2021, Dish Down 230,000 Video Customers

Dish Network reported its first quarter earnings Thursday morning, revealing that Dish lost 230,000 pay TV customers for the quarter and the Dish-owned streaming service Sling TV accounted for 100,000 of those losses. The other 130,000 were Dish TV customers.

Sling TV ended the quarter with 2.37 million subscribers. Hulu with Live remains the number one live TV streaming service with 4.1 million subscribers and YouTube TV comes in second with 3 million.

Sling increased its monthly subscription cost to $35, up from $30. Those who were already subscribed to Sling before August 1, 2020 are still locked in with the lower subscription cost until the price guarantee ends in August 2021. After the price hike, the streaming service introduced a deal for one month for $10, adding DVR Plus for 200 hours of Cloud DVR storage.

Dish Network will host its Q1 financial results call at 11 am ET.
