Sling TV is Removing FOX On-Demand Content

Last week, Sling TV quietly dropped FOX’s On-Demand content in some areas. Earlier this week, Sling TV also dropped NBC’s on-demand content in areas that don’t have an NBC affiliate live on Sling TV. According to Sling TV, they no longer have rights to NBC content in markets where they don’t offer a local NBC affiliate.

UPDATE: The Sling TV Website has been updated to reflect these changes. Here’s the statement posted on their website:

“A few of our channel owners wanted to raise their prices and limit your selection, which simply does not fit with our mission. We couldn’t accept these demands without sacrificing our promise to you, so they pulled their channels. While we fight to bring these channels back at the same great value you expect, you can bookmark this page for updates.”

For some time, Sling TV has offered on-demand FOX content to subscribers who didn’t receive a live feed of FOX. But now it seems if you no longer have a local FOX affiliate you will no longer get FOX on-demand content.

Update: Sling TV has sent Cord Cutters News the following statement about this change:

Unfortunately, Sling no longer has the rights to show on-demand content from NBC or FOX outside of the markets in which they are available live on Sling. For more information about the availability of local broadcast channels on Sling, visit help.sling.com.

Customers who reside in the following markets will still receive live and on-demand content from NBC: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Hartford/New Haven, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, San Diego.

Customers who reside in the following markets will still receive live and on-demand content from FOX: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Gainesville, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose.

Another option for Sling customers to receive their local NBC and FOX channels may be to use a digital over-the-air (OTA) antenna. Local TV stations are required to broadcast their channels for free over the public airwaves, and Sling customers may be able to watch them for free with a digital antenna. AirTV is a great option to get over-the-air signals to the home for free and integrate them right into the Sling TV interface.

Here are all the locals FOX affiliates Sling TV offers:

New York WNYW
Philadelphia WTXF
Chicago WFLD
Detroit WJBK
Washington, DC WTTG
Charlotte WJZY
Atlanta WAGA
Houston KRIV
Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne WOFL
Tampa/St. Petersburg WTVT

Minneapolis/St. Paul KMSP
Dallas/Ft. Worth KDFW
Austin KTBC
