Have Sling TV wish you had ABC? Good news recently, Sling TV announced that they will be adding ABC to their live TV streaming service in select markets. The bad news is the price of Sling TV will be going up in markets with local channels.

Sling TV has always been known as the live TV streaming service that, for the most part, doesn’t offer locals. (With the exception of some Fox and NBC locals.) This is done to save money, and Sling TV encourages users to have an antenna so they can get their locals.

Update: Sling TV has posted more details on its price hike.

As a result of us offering these three local channels (ABC, FOX, NBC), the monthly cost of Sling Blue, and Sling Orange & Sling Blue combo will increase by $5 per month in those five markets only. The pricing will stay the same for Sling Blue and Sling Orange & Sling Blue combo customers throughout the rest of the country, including in the other three markets (Fresno, Houston, Raleigh) receiving the new local ABC channels. The new pricing for affected new and existing customers will be reflected on their next bill on or after March 1, 2023.

Not having locals has allowed has allowed Sling TV to keep its price well below that of its competition. Now though, Sling is adding a few more locals to its live TV service.

ABC locals will be added in 8 markets, but only five markets will see a $5 a month price hike.

Here are the markets Sling TV is adding a $5 fee to:

  • Chicago
  • Los Angeles
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose

Sling TV says these locals will go live on March 1st, 2023. No word on when or if other markets will be added.

If you live in a market with local ABC, FOX, or NBC stations, get ready for a price hike on March 1st, 2023. On Sling’s website, they say, “for those living in areas with access to FOX, NBC and ABC customers will notice a price increase to accommodate this access on their bill on/after March 1, 2023.”

Sadly no word yet on what the new price hike will be.
