Netflix has become known for great original shows and is not known for canceling them. Now Netflix is being forced to pick what shows keep going and which get the ax.
This week Netflix announced two big shows are getting canceled: the popular sci-fi show “Sense8” and “The Get Down.”
“We’ve canceled very few shows,” Hastings said at the Code Conference this week. “I’m always pushing the content team. We have to take more risk. You have to try more crazy things. Because we should have a higher cancel rate overall.”
These two shows join a short list of other canceled Netflix Originals including the following:
- “Longmire,” which got canceled after six seasons and three on Netflix.
- “Lilyhammer” canceled after three seasons.
- “Hemlock Grove” canceled after three seasons.
- “Marco Polo” canceled after two seasons.
There have also been some Netflix shows that have run their course. Mainly “Bloodline” concluded after three seasons. Also “The Killing” concluded after four seasons with the final season on Netflix.
