Sinclair Adds The T2 Channel For Free To All of Its Nextgen ATSC 3.0 OTA TV Areas

Sinclair Broadcast Group, LLC has taken a significant step forward in enhancing the television viewing experience by introducing Tennis Channel’s T2 as a free, streaming, virtual channel across all its markets that have adopted the NextGen Broadcast standard, also known as ATSC 3.0. This move ushers in high-quality sports content, including professional tennis matches and exclusive programming, directly to viewers via Sinclair’s NextGen Broadcast stations.

The integration of T2 into Sinclair’s offerings underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging the latest in broadcasting technology for a more immersive viewing experience. Notably, T2’s programming is set to feature Advanced HDR by Technicolor®, a move that significantly enhances picture quality through better contrast, brightness, and color range.

NextGen Broadcasting is a strong leap forward in digital broadcasting, combining over-the-air signals with internet connectivity. This move offer viewers additional content choices and interactive features. Sinclair’s deployment of ATSC 3.0 in 43 markets nationwide marks a significant milestone in bringing this advanced technology to the public.

In addition to sports content, Sinclair has also announced a collaboration with America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) to offer free carriage of virtual channels from public television stations in markets where Sinclair has deployed ATSC 3.0 but have not yet transitioned to the standard. This initiative seeks to ensure that viewers have access to a wide range of educational and informational content, with the option for enhanced video quality through HDR.

Sinclair’s Chief Technology Officer, Mike Kralec, highlighted the benefits of delivering high-quality programming via connected smart TVs, paving the way for broader over-the-air distribution in the future.

“With this new NextGen Broadcast platform that Sinclair is leading the way in introducing, people all over the country will have more ways to watch live, top-tier professional sports around the clock, with the best players in the world, all year long,” Krlaec explained. “This means hours and hours of daily, continuous play and original programming that only exists on T2.”

The collaboration between Sinclair and APTS is poised to accelerate the adoption of ATSC 3.0, while promising a new era of television. This era is one that combines the best of traditional broadcasting with the advantages of modern digital technology. Public television stations interested in joining this initiative can contact APTS for more information.
