In honor of the legendary writer, director and actor Carl Reiner’s 97th birthday, Decades TV Network is having and extended weekend on November 2nd through 4th 2019 full of Reiner’s best work, including 97 episodes of the iconic primetime TV series The Dick Van Dyke Show. After the weekend of special programming, The Dick Van Dyke Show will join Decades TV regular programming and air weekdays from 10pm-11pm ET.

Reiner started out in Broadway and then transitioned to comedy writing. He came up with the idea for a television series originally called “Head of the House” in which he played the lead, a suburban man who worked in show business. The pilot was rejected but producer Sheldon Leonard decided to rework the show casting a “better actor” to play the lead – Dick Van Dyke.

The Dick Van Dyke Show went on to be considered by both fans and critics as one of the best TV sitcoms and won 15 Primetime Emmy awards during it’s five seasons from 1961-1966.

On November 21, The Paley Center for Media will present Reiner with the Paley Honors Award for his enduring impact on television comedy.
