The results are in on the latest Roku Original film, and they look good. NFL Draft: The Pick Is In debuted last weekend and quickly rose to become the #1 Roku Original Documentary.
NFL Draft: The Pick Is In gathered more new and returning members to The Roku Channel than any other Roku Original Documentary, according to a press release published by the company yesterday. The feature follows the Carolina Panthers, the Indianapolis Colts, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Jacksonville Jaguars through the 2023 NFL Draft Weekend.
It was a memorable weekend that featured the most trades in NFL history, and the documentary caught all the behind-the-scenes coverage. It’s also a perfect appetizer for any football fan awaiting the start of the NFL season next month.
“It’s incredible to see NFL Draft: The Pick Is In resonate with our audiences in such a profound way,” said Brian Tannenbaum, head of originals at Roku Media. “The strong momentum around ‘NFL Draft: The Pick Is In’ is a testament to the dynamic teamwork between the master storytelling from Skydance Sports and NFL Films and the reach power of the Roku platform.”
The documentary is available for free on The Roku Channel. It takes an in-depth look at the high-pressure and high-stakes draft rooms as leagues make their selections.
“The NFL Draft has become one of the biggest events on the sports calendar, and taking a peek behind the curtain of what goes on in those draft rooms is endlessly fascinating for football fans,” said Ross Ketover, senior executive of NFL Films.
To celebrate the successful opening weekend, Roku said it plans to collaborate with Skydance Sports and NFL films for another documentary covering the 2024 NFL Draft. Next year’s NFL Draft will happen in Detroit and runs from April 25 to 27. Which teams will be featured next has not been decided.
“The NFL Draft is an iconic American spectacle and such a fantastic setting for documentary creators,” said Jon Weinbach, president of Skydance Sports. “We’re enormously proud of the great team effort to create this film, are thrilled that it resonated with viewers, and look forward to creating more premium sports projects with our partners at NFL Films and Roku.”
