Roku has had a voice search for some time, but now it seems that it is about to make it even better. Recently Roku posted a job posting for someone to help with its Speech Recognition Systems. In the job description, Roku says, We want to use our extensive collection of voice utterances to create our own speech recognition service.
In total Roku has 3 job openings related to Voice. First a Sr. Interaction Designer Voice, Voice User Interface Designer, and an Intern Speech Recognition Systems.

The Role and Responsibilities
When someone wants to find something to watch on TV, voice is a natural way to find your favorite show. We want to use our extensive collection of voice utterances to create our own speech recognition service. We are looking for an intern who has experience working with open source speech recognition systems. Your job would entail developing automation tools for humans to transcribe audio, train an open source recognizer on that audio, and build a system to transcribe real production audio utterances.
So what is this new voice service? That is unknown at this time, but we do know Roku has been building up voice capabilities in their OS 7.6 update. That update allowed Roku Channels to access the microphone. This will likely allow them to use voice search inside apps once the developer takes advantage of the new feature.
