You won’t have to go to the ballpark to watch the latest special from Major League Baseball. MLB and Roku are joining forces this summer to celebrate baseball’s most electrifying moment: the home run. Beginning Sunday, July 6, Roku will premiere “Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run,” an all-new special available at no cost on The Roku Channel.
Hosted by Roy Wood Jr., the program promises a blend of his renowned humor, insight, and unforgettable highlights that will both delight die-hard fans and casual viewers. “As a baseball fan, it’s an honor to lead the exploration into one of the most electric acts in all of sports,” said Woods in a statement.
During the special, fans will get access to some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Jazz Chisholm, and reigning Home Run Derby champions Pete Alonso and Teoscar Hernandez. Additionally, MLB legend and 700 Home Run Club member Albert Pujols will make a special appearance. Other guests include legendary broadcasters, Hall of Famer Bob Costas, and the voice of the Home Run Derby, Chris Berman.
“There’s something incredibly special about home runs, from hitting them in backyard games as a kid to watching big leaguers hit mammoth ones deep into the night,” said Kenny Gersh, MLB Executive Vice President, Media & Business Development. “This special will be the next chapter in the great story of home runs, and what makes them an everlasting part of our sports culture, rooted in mystique, excitement, and awe.”
With Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run, the league and Roku are expanding their relationship, which already includes live games on Sunday mornings during MLB Sunday Leadoff on The Roku Channel. Fans can watch 18 games this season free of charge without the need for a subscription.
“This special marks a new milestone in our partnership with Major League Baseball and will bring audiences the fun, emotion, and anticipation of the home run, and more specifically, one of the biggest events in sports, the Home Run Derby,” said Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports, Roku Media. “We look forward to having the sport’s top players and figures unpack notable performances, electric moments, and more in this all-new special.”
