April Fools’ Day is no joke when it comes to streaming. According to Roku, searches for prank and comedy content on their platform spiked by 25% in the three days leading up to April 1st last year…and the trend is back for 2025.

In celebration of the unofficial holiday of laughs, Roku shared their top-searched comedy content from December 2024 through February 2025, offering a snapshot of what’s tickling America’s funny bone.

Top Searched Comedy & Prank Titles on Roku

From timeless troublemakers to musical misfits, here are the most searched comedy and prank titles leading into April Fools Day:

  • South Park
  • White Chicks
  • The Parent Trap
  • Pitch Perfect
  • Impractical Jokers
  • Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
  • American Pie
  • Dennis the Menace
  • Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Every Generation Has Its Jokers

Roku also broke down which comedy titles over-indexed by generation, and the results are surprisingly on-brand. The titles below can be found across a number of streaming services including Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, and more.

Gen Z is all about chaotic high school humor and modern pranksters:

  • John Tucker Must Die, Superbad, and Impractical Jokers (for now?) top their list.

Millennials love their 90s and 2000s comfort comedy:

  • Ace Ventura, Beerfest, and Uncle Drew were favorites.

Gen X leans into classic slapstick:

  • Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles led the way.

Boomers, unsurprisingly, still appreciate the classics:

  • The Three Stooges and Animal House topped their list, with Young Frankenstein appearing for both Gen X and Boomers.

Who’s Making America Laugh?

Roku also shared the most-searched comedians this season, showing that stand-up and sketch comedy are thriving in the streaming world:

  • Nate Bargatze
  • Kevin Hart
  • Eddie Murphy
  • Jim Gaffigan
  • Robin Williams
  • George Lopez
  • Gabriel Iglesias
  • Matt Rife
  • Nikki Glaser
  • Pete Davidson

And when broken down by generation, Norm Macdonald dominated across the board. Norm appeared in the top 5 for Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers. Now that’s a lasting legacy.

Looking to join in on the laughs? Whether you’re into nostalgic comedies or modern mischief, Roku has you covered. From Impractical Jokers hijinks to Jim Carrey’s rubber-faced antics, there’s something for every prankster-in-training.

So this April Fools’ Day, go ahead – stream a classic, laugh like a kid again, and maybe even pull a (harmless) prank or two.
