Do you own a Roku made since 2011? If so good news! You will be able to use the new Roku OS! This huge update will allow you the ability to connect to hotel and college dorm networks among other upgrades.
The ability to connect the new Roku OS to a Hotel and College Dorm greatly increases the market for Roku. In 2015 there was over 50 million college students in the Untied States alone. Many of them live in dorms that had been blocked from using Roku devices because of the second step authentication required by college internet systems. There are also millions of travelers every year in the US who will now be able to travel with their favorite content.
The fact that Roku is cutting off support for the New OS to older boxes is expected. Recently Roku announced that “Classic” Roku boxes would no longer receive updates but would continue to work.
Roku plans to start releasing the Roku OS 7 update mid-October and have all devices updated by mid-November.
