Roku has recently been seeing solid growth and is rumored to be getting ready to go public with $1 billion target deal. Now Roku has announced plans to improve its service to handle more Roku users.

A statement on Roku’s website read, “We are migrating to new and more scalable servers to accommodate more Roku customers and partners. This migration will take place on August 23, 2017 from 5:00am to 11:00am PT.”

During this maintenance work you will be able to stream with the apps you currently have but you will be unable to activate new Roku devices, access the Roku Channel Store, and make select streaming purchases through Roku Billing.

The good news is that Roku is working to be ahead of what seems to be solid growth. While no issues have been reported, Roku wants to make sure Roku users never notice any issues by moving to a more robust server system.

It is also great to see a company like Roku clearly lay out when an outage will happen almost a month before it will occur. As streaming devices such as Roku become more important their reliability becomes a bigger issue.

Roku ended its statement with the following message: “We appreciate your patience and support as we make these improvements to scale the Roku platform.”
