Roku is by far the most popular streaming player with cord-cutters according to surveys of our readers, and now it’s fixing one of its most annoying issues.
Roku fans love its screen saver that shows Roku City full of hidden references to movies and TV shows. Within that, Roku displays ads on billboards for various movies, TV shows, and streaming services. In the past, if you hit the play button thinking you would restart what you were watching, it would open whatever ad was on the screen at the time.
Now Roku has started to test out replacing the play button as the way to open ads with the options button, also known as the asterisk button on your remote. This allows you to now hit play once again to restart your show or movie even if the screen saver is running.
For many, this small change will remove many headaches as Roku fans annoyingly mistakenly click play to watch their show again but instead launch an ad for a totally different streaming service, fully exiting them out of what they were watching.
For now, it seems that Roku is testing this with a growing number of devices. Hopefully, this feature rolls out to all Roku owners soon, fixing what many consider the most annoying issue on Roku.
