A behind-the-scenes look at a basketball Hall of Famer’s control of a mid-major is coming to streaming. Front Office Sports reports that a new college hoops docuseries following the Sacramento State Hornets is coming to The Roku Channel.
Per FOS, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Production and Overtime are set to produce the six-part show, Fear Nothing: Sac State. The series follows this year’s team on and off the court, debuting on Friday, May 1, with new episodes arriving weekly after the premiere.
The Hornets are backed by big names with star power, including general manager Shaquille O’Neal and head coach Mike Bibby. The former Western Conference rivals offer notoriety to the story of underdogs after Sac State finished the season 10-21.
According to the report, one young player the series will track is Mikey Williams, who transferred to Sac State after stints elsewhere. The series follows the former 5-star prospect’s effort to rebuild his career and give fans an inside look at raw practices, recruiting scenes, and the fundraising side of college hoops.
Bibby told FOS the cameras are there “to show people what we’re doing.” He said the exposure helps players and the program. The coach added he’d “die for every single one of these kids,” per the report.
Last spring, Sac State made waves when it hired the Sacramento Kings legend. Bibby spent half of his NBA career in California’s capital, making multiple playoff appearances, including the infamous 2002 Western Conference Finals against O’Neal’s Los Angeles Lakers.
Weeks after Bibby’s hire, the Hornets welcomed O’Neal as the team’s general manager. When hired, the team said the 15-time All-Star would focus on “recruitment, marketing, and holistic player development” on and off the court. The four-time NBA champion waived his salary for the role. With the upcoming Roku docuseries, viewers get an inside look at his efforts.
Backed by Omaha’s high-profile production value, Overtime’s social-first reach and younger audiences, and Roku’s wide, free distribution, Fear Nothing: Sac State is poised to bring the drama, heartbreak, and triumph of a fledgling college basketball program to fans everywhere.
