Roku has rolled out an enhancement to its Live TV experience with an updated feature in the Live Guide that simplifies navigation for viewers using over-the-air antenna channels or live streams. The change allows Roku TV owners to jump back to the last channel you watched with a single click of a button, making it more intuitive for users who frequently switch between channels, particularly during live events such as sports games broadcast on traditional television signals.

Previously, when watching a live channel accessed through an antenna connected to a Roku device or via certain streaming sources integrated into the Live Guide, the jump back option—represented by a circular arrow icon on the remote—primarily served to rewind content by a few seconds if you have an external USB storage device plugged into your TV. This allowed viewers to replay missed moments in real time, a handy tool for catching dialogue or action that slipped by. Now, though, that has changed.

Roku has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that with a recent Roku update, pressing the jump back button now switches directly to the most recently viewed channel instead of merely rewinding the current one. This creates a seamless toggle effect, enabling users to hop back and forth between channels with a single press. For example, someone watching a football game on one local broadcast channel can instantly return to a basketball matchup on another without navigating through the full guide or entering channel numbers manually. The feature applies across both antenna-sourced over-the-air programming and compatible live streams displayed in the Roku Live Guide, broadening its utility for households relying on free broadcast television alongside streaming options.

By prioritizing quick channel switching, Roku addresses a pain point for viewers who value efficiency during peak viewing times. Sports enthusiasts, in particular, stand to benefit significantly, as flipping between different sporting events becomes far less cumbersome. The circular arrow design of the button provides a visual cue that reinforces its new primary role as a last-channel recall tool, while still retaining compatibility with other contextual uses depending on the active app or input.

This also comes as Roku has been making multiple changes to its Live Guide. Recently, Roku added a search feature to its Roku Live Guide to make finding what you want easier.

These change makes it easier to use your Roku TV like you would with any other OTA TV with a last channel button. As Roku continues to blend traditional broadcast viewing with modern streaming, features like this help bridge the gap, ensuring that free over-the-air options remain accessible and convenient in an increasingly hybrid media landscape. The update is expected to reach compatible Roku devices through automatic software pushes, allowing users to enjoy the improved experience without manual intervention. With this addition, Roku strengthens its position as a versatile platform for both legacy television habits and contemporary streaming demands, delivering practical value to a wide range of audiences.
