Adult Swim kicked off April Fools’ Day with a bang, announcing that Rick and Morty Season 8 will premiere on May 25, 2025, and proving it’s no prank with a first-look teaser aired during a quirky 22-minute broadcast special. The network’s annual April Fools’ stunt—this time a live-action anthology remaking fan-favorite Rick and Morty moments in theatrical glory—culminated in the big reveal, delighting fans still buzzing from Season 7’s acclaimed finale. New episodes will air Sundays at 11 p.m. ET/PT, with the full season hitting Max and Hulu in the U.S. on September 1, 2025 announced during Adult Swims April 1st special.
The special, which aired at midnight EDT, reimagined classics like Pickle Rick and the Cthulhu chase with a stage-play twist, blending musicals, ballet, and mime. It ended with a glimpse of Season 8, showcasing Rick Sanchez (voiced by Ian Cardoni) and Morty Smith (Harry Belden) stumbling on a multicolored eggshell and a bunny-mask-laden adventure. The official description teases: “Rick and Morty is back for Season Eight. Life has meaning again! Anything is possible! Look out for adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Maybe Butter Bot will get a new task. Whatever happens, you can’t keep Rick and Morty down for long. People have tried!” Seven first-look images accompanied the reveal, hinting at the zany chaos ahead.
Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen leaned into the gag, saying, “We hope you enjoyed our theater interpretations of Rick and Morty, especially if you’re well-off/impulsive and now want to back a Broadway version of the show. For the rest of you, we’re glad you now know when Season Eight is starting so you have time to stretch and get loose because the team has yet again made a totally great season of television.” The announcement follows Season 7’s December 17, 2023, finale—praised as the “best episode in years”—and a pivotal voice recast after co-creator Justin Roiland’s exit amid dropped domestic violence charges, with Cardoni and Belden stepping in seamlessly.
Rick and Morty’s return helps cements Adult Swim’s animated dominance. The May 25 premiere—paired with streaming access—positions Season 8 to rule the summer for fans craving more interdimensional antics.
