The Device
The Roku Ultra is like past models physically. It offers the find my remote feature, USB, HDMI, and ethernet.
The real improvement is it now comes with a Roku Pro Remote 2 with improved USB-C charging, programable buttons, and a quick launch guide button.
Setup
Roku still has one of the easiest setups for a new device. The Roku Ultra even noticed I already had other Rokus on that Wi-Fi network and offered to automatically setup the Roku to the same account. (Email link verification required for security.)
Setup took about five minutes and was as easy as any streaming player I have tested.
Performance
There is an improvement with the 2024 Roku Ultra over older models. Roku claims 30% improvement and that is hard to gauge but launching apps and streams was noticeably better.
The real increased performance of the Roku Ultra 2024 is when you compare it to other Roku models. The Roku Ultra 2024 is significantly faster than the Roku Stick 4k or Roku Express. It’s more expensive, and it offers a far superior experience.
One of the biggest selling points is the improved Wi-Fi with WiFi6 offering far superior performance than older Roku models.
The 2024 Roku Ultra is clearly the best Roku streaming player out there.
