Review: Hauppauge 1191 WinTV-HVR-955Q USB TV Tuner For Notebook

The WinTV-HRV 955Q is a great little digital tuner. This is the perfect adapter for at home or on the road if you want to get OTA TV on your laptop. It is well made and small enough to fit into your pocket.

The real drawback is a cheap remote and antenna. The good news is you do not need the ones that come with the WinTV-HVR. You can connect most antennas you may have and use any wireless keyboard/mouse to control it. I used a Rii i8+ keyboard and a Mohu Leaf antenna.

(Just so you know what hardware we tested this on, we used a Quantum Byte Mini PC. You can see the full specs and our review of it HERE.)

  • Easy to install
  • Well built
  • Does what it says it will do (something kind of rare nowadays)
  • High quality cables and accessories

  • The remote could be better but it is not needed
  • The antenna that comes with it is poor quality

Comes with:

  • WinTV-HVR-955Q USB 2.0 TV stick with cable – TV or ATSC antenna connection
  • Hauppauge credit card remote control
  • Audio/video adapter cable
  • USB extension cable
  • Portable TV antenna
  • Installation software and WinTV v7 application on CD-ROM
  • Quick Installation Guide
