New data from Reelgood’s Q1 2021 SVOD Catalog Insights ranks the top 10 streaming services against each other in different categories, and Amazon Prime Video came out on top as the streaming service that added the most movies in the first quarter of 2021. This comes as no surprise since the results were the same for the streamer in Q4 of last year. HBO Max also climbed its way to second place in the movie category, bumping Hulu to the third spot.

Hulu also came in third in the category of streaming services that added the most episodes to their libraries, which was a +2 increase from last quarter. Philo bumped its ranking up to second place, while HBO Max added the most episodes overall in Q1, boosting its ranking from last quarter by +5. Netflix didn’t make the list until No. 8 on the episode side, and No. 6 in terms of new movies added, mostly because the streamer has turned to focus on creating its own originals instead of licensed content. And it’s darn good at it. A recent survey shows 38% of respondents ranked Netflix as the No. 1 streaming service offering the best original programming.

Netflix put out the most original TV shows and episodes again this quarter, followed by HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video. Disney+ was in fourth place for adding original TV shows, and fifth place in terms of episodes added. Apple TV+’s hard work at trying to expand its library is starting to pay off. The streamer came in at No.6 for adding TV shows and episodes.

Discovery+ also made a name for itself, making the top 10 on both lists for most content added this quarter. The new streaming service launched in January of this year.
