Redbox & TikTok Team Up

Redbox is teaming up with TikTok to add viral videos to some of its collection of kiosks. The new deal will add TikTok content to over 3,000 Redbox screens prominently displayed on the DVD rental company’s kiosks. In total, Redbox has around 31,000 kiosks, so this is an initial rollout testing the waters before adding the feature to more.

“This new partnership provides advertisers a unique opportunity to reach new audiences and drive engagement,” said Philippe Guelton, Crackle Connex’s Chief Revenue Officer as reported by Variety. Crackle is under the same umbrella company and oversees more than 180 ad-supported Redbox Free Live TV channels.

He went on to say, “Our Redbox kiosks are in high-traffic locations where millions of people frequently shop, such as grocery stores or value retailers. We look forward to working with TikTok on expanding this partnership as our [digital out-of-home] network expands.”

Redbox has been facing a difficult year so far and its parent company Chicken Soup For The Soul’s market value had been slashed to $55 million during the first quarter.

Both companies hope to work together to bring in new revenue streams and raise overall profits. Redbox will attract some of TikTok’s members while TikTok ventures out from mobile devices for the first time. Advertisers will also be able to buy slots played between TikTok videos.

“People come to TikTok to experience the entertainment, joy, and creativity of our community and we are excited to expand that experience to Redbox kiosks,” said Dan Page, Head of Global Distribution of new screens for TikTok “This partnership allows us to bring together the power of our exceptional content with the high visibility of Redbox kiosk locations, creating an effective and fresh approach to advertising.”

There’s no word yet on when TikTok will start playing at a Redbox kiosk near you. Check back with Cord Cutters News as more information surrounding this new deal is disclosed.
