Quibi’s Free Trial is Ending Soon

Quibi’s 90-day free trial period will come to an end starting this week. The mobile-only streaming service launched April 6 and extended a three-month free trial to new users through April 30. So depending on when you signed up, all users will have to start paying a subscription fee ($4.99/month with ads, $7.99/month for ad-free) between this Sunday and July 30.

Since it’s a mobile-only streaming service, canceling your subscription has to be done through the app. It can be a little tricky so we’ve laid out the instructions for canceling on iOS below.

Here’s how to cancel before your billing starts:

  • Open the Quibi app on your device
  • Click the profile icon in the top right corner
  • Go to My Account > Change Subscription Plan
  • Click Manage Subscriptions in the fine print at the bottom
  • You’ll be redirected to your phone settings where you can cancel or update your subscription.

Quibi had about 1.6 million active users reported in May, and about twice as many app downloads. But none of those are paying customers yet since the 90-day trial was still in effect. With the free trial coming to an end, viewers will be forced to decide whether they want to pay $5-$7 for the short-form content, or if the novel idea of mobile-only entertainment in “quick bites” didn’t hook them enough to start a subscription.

The app has abandoned also its previous novelty concept of being mobile-only to allow casting to big screens. It’s also adapted to permit sharing content to popular outlets like Tik-Tok and Instagram to help spread its exposure.
