Parks Associates, a leading market research firm, has released its updated ranking of the top 10 subscription streaming video services in the United States. Based on subscriber estimates through September 2024, the list reveals a dynamic landscape with some notable shifts in the pecking order.
Prime Video and Netflix continue to dominate the market, holding onto the first and second positions respectively. However, Disney+ has made a significant leap, overtaking Hulu to claim the third spot. Peacock also made gains, cracking the top five for the first time and surpassing MAX and Paramount+.

The research highlights the growing popularity of ad-supported streaming services, with 42% of US households now opting for these lower-cost options. This trend intensifies competition in the streaming market, forcing services to find new ways to attract and retain subscribers.
“Tracking the changes at the top of the market over the past five years reveals the extent of rebranding and consolidation shaping this market,” said Jennifer Kent, VP of Research at Parks Associates. She pointed to the disappearance of Showtime as a standalone service, now an add-on to Paramount+, as an example of this trend.
Kent predicts further differentiation in subscription tiers and content bundles, offering consumers more flexibility in how they access their preferred content.
Parks Associates will delve deeper into these trends and share further insights at its seventh annual Future of Video conference, taking place November 19-21 in Marina del Rey, California. The event will feature keynotes from industry leaders and explore the latest developments in the streaming video landscape.
