Pluto TV, the free ad-supported streaming service owned by Paramount Global, has expanded its lineup with the launch of Unexplained Zone, a new reality-focused channel dedicated to unraveling the world’s most perplexing mysteries. The channel, which began streaming earlier this month, features shows like History’s Greatest Mysteries, alongside other investigative series that delve into unexplained phenomena, historical enigmas, and paranormal events, catering to viewers intrigued by the unknown. With Pluto TV already boasting 80 million monthly active users (April 2023), this addition aims to capture the growing appetite for mystery-driven content.

Unexplained Zone joins Pluto TV’s robust catalog of over 425 channels, offering 24/7 access to programs that probe topics from ancient conspiracies to modern-day cover-ups. History’s Greatest Mysteries, a flagship series on the channel, explores unresolved historical questions—like the fate of Cleopatra’s tomb or the mystery of the Mary Celeste—through expert interviews and dramatic reenactments. The channel also includes other Pluto TV staples such as Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack, which has long been a draw on the platform’s mystery lineup, encouraging viewers to help solve cold cases.

The launch aligns with Pluto TV’s strategy to diversify its offerings under Paramount Streaming, especially after integrating content from Paramount’s vast library post the 2019 Viacom-CBS merger. Unlike Paramount+, which focuses on premium on-demand content, Pluto TV emulates traditional broadcast with linear channels, inserting ads akin to cable TV—revenue that has fueled its growth since its 2014 debut. However, the addition of the Unexplained Zone has sparked mixed reactions.

Pluto TV’s mystery category already includes channels like Conspiracy (Ch. 601) and Haunt TV (Ch. 603), but Unexplained Zone carves a niche by blending historical intrigue with reality TV flair. The channel’s launch follows Pluto TV’s November 2024 rollout of PBS Genealogy and Family Feud channels, showing its ongoing push into niche genres.
