TiVo released the results of a survey conducted by a third party service showing some of the current trends in watching video.
In the study, TiVo looked at linear Advertisement Based Video on Demand (AVOD) and where survey respondents are finding free, legal content. The results show that AVOD services are growing. Pluto TV is at the top of the list of most popular free services, with 18.5% of respondents saying they use the service. However, Tubi TV is growing quickly and is catching up to Pluto TV, with 16.2% of respondents using the service.
Where else are viewers finding free content? YouTube, Facebook, and free video from network sites and apps topped the list.
The increasing interest in free linear AVOD streaming services isn’t surprising. The survey also asked cord cutters what caused them to cut the cord. 85.2% said that they cut pay TV because it was too expensive. While streaming subscribers generally save money, the amount of money saved each month can obviously be even greater when free services are included in the mix.
