Plex is starting the year strong, enhancing its mission to build a global community for TV and movie enthusiasts. With new features aimed at helping users connect, discover, and enjoy their favorite entertainment, here’s what’s new on the platform.
Write and Share Reviews Like a Pro
Plex users can now channel their inner film critics by writing reviews visible to the entire Plex community. Whether you adored a movie or found it underwhelming, Plex encourages fans to share their opinions. Reviews can spark conversations as other users comment and engage, fostering a more interactive and social streaming experience.
To complement these changes, Plex profiles can now be made public on watch.plex.tv, allowing others to see what’s on your Watchlist, recent activity, and reviews. By default, all users remain searchable unless privacy settings are adjusted.

Preview the New Plex Experience
Plex has rolled out a sneak peek of its reimagined platform, starting with Apple TV users and promising more platforms soon. The preview features:
- Redesigned navigation for easier discoverability.
- Enhanced personalization and streamlined access to features.
- Richer visual designs, with expanded artwork integration.
Plex is actively seeking feedback from users to refine the new interface, making this a community-driven evolution.

HEVC Encoding for Plex Pass Subscribers
For Plex’s most dedicated users, the platform has officially launched HEVC hardware encoding. Previously available in a forum preview, this feature is now accessible to Plex Pass subscribers worldwide.
Why does it matter? HEVC encoding allows for higher video quality at the same (or lower) bandwidth usage. It also preserves HDR metadata, eliminating the need for tone mapping. In short, it’s better quality with less data—ideal for bandwidth-conscious streamers.

As 2025 Rolls On…
