Today, Plex announced it is granting free access to its streaming music app, Plexamp.

“We want every music user on Plex to have the best possible experience. Rock solid streaming and high-quality audio, in a streamlined application which is a treat for the eyes. This is why we’ve decided to release a new version of Plexamp which allows everyone to use it, absolutely free.”

With the free version of Plexamp, you can add your music to your personalized Plex Media Server. You can create smart playlists and add stations. You can even search for music based on your mood by typing in some simple descriptors. As reported by TechCrunch, you can create playlists based on words like “brooding, cathartic, confident, intense, playful, poignant, swaggering, and wistful.”

Plexamp offers unlimited streaming from your entire music library complete with high-end audio features such as Sweet Fades, gapless playback, pre-caching, and loudness leveling. You can even customize the display using different themes and UltraBlur backgrounds.

The Plexamp app works with iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux and can be paired with CaryPlay, Android Auto, Siri, AirPlay, and Chromecast.

Plex Pass members get extra features, including the ability to download entire playlists, albums, stations, and more so you can listen on the go without needing an internet connection. Plex Pass members can also find new artists and albums by using interactive builders that provide suggestions based on your music library.

The Plex Pass also includes lyrics to most songs and auto-play features. Check out everything Plex Pass has to offer and compare a membership to the free Plexamp version.

A Plex Pass membership costs only $4.99 a month or get an annual membership for $39.99. You can give the free version a trial run before deciding to upgrade. If Plex Pass is your jam, you can sign up for a lifetime membership for only $119.99.
