Today Sony turned off the switch on accepting new subscribers for Playstation Vue. Now when you go to PlayStation Vue and start the signup process you see this message:

PlayStation Vue is discontinuing service on January 30, 2020 and is no longer accepting new subscribers.

For existing active subscribers, PlayStation Vue will continue to deliver live, On Demand and DVR programs until the service discontinuation date of January 30, 2020. To cancel the service, sign in and visit the Subscription Summary page.

Sony recently announced that PlayStation Vue is shutting down on January 30th, 2020. This news comes after it was reported that Sony had tried to find someone to buy the service earlier this year. Now it seems that Sony failed to secure a buyer and has decided to walk away and shut down PlayStation Vue. Sony says they won’t charge PlayStation Vue customers after December 31st, 2019. Current subscribers will be able to keep their service until January 30th, 2020.

“Today we are announcing that we will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected,” Sony in a statement on their website. “Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.”

Sony went on to say that they “are very proud of what PlayStation Vue was able to accomplish. We had ambitious goals for how our service could change how people watch TV, showcasing PlayStation’s ability to innovate in a brand-new category within the Pay TV industry. We want to thank all of our customers, some of whom have been with us since PlayStation Vue’s launch in 2015.”

Rumors of PlayStation Vue’s demise started to surface back in August when Sony informed affiliates that Sony had decided to “deprioritize” PlayStation Vue. Shortly after that email to affiliates, Sony stopped all advertising of the service and reportedly put PlayStation Vue up for sale.

This is a sad day for PlayStation Vue fans many who use the service love it but sadly the service failed to get gain new subscribers recently and reportedly has just 500,000 subscribers.
