Peacock: Pricing and Free Trial

*Current as of February 2021

When a new streaming service arrives, the first question that most people ask is: is there a free trial, and how can I get one? It’s no different with Peacock, NBCUniversal’s recent foray into the streaming world. Alongside its rather unique pricing strategy, Peacock offers deals and free trials. If you’re wondering how to get them, read on for all the details, including what to do when that precious free trial expires.

What is Peacock?

Peacock is one of the newest services to reach the streaming market. The home of NBCUniversal’s shows and movies, it’s the only platform that allows you to watch entire seasons of The Office. Plus, the library contains plenty of hit Universal movies, including Jurassic Park. Live sports such as the Premier League and original series will also be broadcast via Peacock, and the likes of Harry Potter and Fast & Furious are set to appear in the catalog, too.

The service is relatively novel as it offers a free option as well as paid subscriptions. The free service is, of course, ad-supported, while the top premium plan comes without commercials for a premium viewing experience. And as well as giving users plenty of on-demand content to stream, there are also unique channels that are entirely dedicated to popular franchises.

How do I sign up for a Peacock free trial?

While you can access Peacock via a range of devices — including smart TVs, game consoles, and mobile devices — the way to sign up for a free trial is through the Peacock website. And while Android users were once able to enjoy an extended 3-month trial, all users now only have the opportunity to sign up for a 7-day free trial.

If you’re interested in Peacock’s free tier, then there’s no need to sign up for a trial. Just create an account and get busy streaming. But if you want to try out either of the premium tiers, you’ll be looking for a trial. To get one, head to the Peacock website and scroll down to the Upgrade for More section. Then, click on Discover Peacock Premium.

You’ll be asked to create an account. This involves entering an email address and creating a password of at least 10 characters. Before clicking Create Account, you’ll also have to agree to Peacock’s terms of use and privacy policy. The final step is to enter your payment information — you can use either a credit card or a PayPal account. Once that’s done, click Pay Now to start your trial and begin browsing.

What types of free trials does Peacock typically offer?

Both the Premium and Premium Plus plans come with a 7-day free trial. (That’s a standard trial length in the streaming world.) A 3-month trial was initially offered for Android users when Peacock launched, but this has now been replaced by a 7-day trial across the board.

However, there has been talk of Spectrum video and broadband customers receiving an extended free trial, though this has yet to materialize.

Are there bundle deals with Peacock?

Unfortunately, you can’t bundle Peacock with any other service or add it onto another platform’s subscription for a monthly discount. Right now, Peacock acts as an entirely standalone streaming service. But there’s always a chance that that could change in the future.

Current 2021 Peacock deals

Sign up via Peacock’s website for a 7-day free trial of the Premium or Premium Plus plan.

There is one current deal to take note of. Peacock Premium, which usually costs $4.99/mo., is available for free to select Comcast customers. If you are an Xfinity X1 or Flex customer with Xfinity Internet or a subscription to Comcast’s Digital Starter TV, you won’t be eligible. Similarly, Cox Contour customers will need to have Cox Internet and Contour TV essential or higher to enjoy free premium access. Further partnerships may be available in the future.

What should I do after my Peacock trial expires?

When you come to the end of your Peacock free trial, you’ll have a choice: do you choose to stay with the service or cancel? If you’ve enjoyed the experience and want to become a paying member, you have a few options. You can continue with your Premium or Premium Plus plan.

The former is $4.99/mo. and comes with 15,000 hours of content, next-day streaming of all current broadcast shows, and live sports. The Premium Plus package has identical content but removes commercials for the higher fee of $9.99/mo. (Note that a fraction of the content may still show ads.)

Of course, there’s also the option to become a Peacock Free member if you’re more than happy to have just 7,500 hours of content and don’t mind watching ads.

But if cancellation is the right path for you, Peacock makes it pretty simple to do so. Just head to the Peacock website and log in if you haven’t already. In the upper right corner, you’ll find your profile icon. Click it to head to your account page and then click Change Plan. By hitting the Peacock Free button and following the instructions, you’ll switch to the free plan. Note that you’ll need to cancel your free trial before the week is finished to avoid being billed for your first month. There are tons of streaming services out there, so if Peacock doesn’t strike your fancy, take a look at Hulu or CBS All Access instead.

The final cut

While it may be obvious to sign up for Peacock’s free package, it makes sense to at least try out the Premium or Premium Plus plan. After all, you won’t have to pay anything for a week and can enjoy double the amount of content along with fewer commercials and live sports. So why not sign up for Peacock’s free trial today? A few clicks, and you’ll be on your way to watching every single rerun of The Office without paying a cent.
