Over the summer PBS announced that they would be launching a live TV streaming service as part of a partnership with YouTube TV. At the time we didn’t know when PBS and PBS Kids would launch on YouTube TV. Now we have confirmed that some PBS Kids and PBS stations will go live on YouTube TV next week.

“We’re excited to launch our very first local livestream on YouTube TV,” PBS Chief Digital and Marketing Officer Ira Rubenstein said when this deal was first announced. “Our goal is to reach as many Americans as possible with content that educates, inspires and entertains. As a broadcaster that is rooted in communities, we appreciate YouTube’s commitment to local content, and we are pleased that this service provides audiences with access to programming that is produced and distributed by our member stations.”

Cord Cutters News has confirmed with local PBS stations, including Boston’s WGHB, Norfolk’s WHRO, and Philadelphia’s WHYY, that they will go live on November 4, 2019.

Not all PBS stations will go live on November 4. Some have reported that they will be live in a later roll out of PBS stations later this year. A few PBS stations have even hinted that their roll out may not be until sometime in 2020.

Sadly, YouTube and PBS have not publicly announced a list of stations that will go live on November 4. If you want to find out if your local PBS station will be included you may want to reach out to them and ask. Many local PBS stations have been confirming to viewers their launch date with YouTube TV if they call in.

Not all PBS stations will offer a live local feed. Some PBS stations have said they will be offering a national feed of PBS without local programming.

Some PBS stations did say that YouTube TV has the final stay on when locals will be added. So, the exact launch dates may vary from what your local PBS announces.
