Today TMZ confirmed that the 2024 MTV Movie & TV Awards will not be happening in 2024. This comes as the 2023 had been impacted by the WGA strike that saw the shows host Drew Barrymore pull out of the program.

According to the TMZ report the show may return in 2025 but in a new reimagined format. What that means is not known at this time.

The MTV Movie Awards first launched in 1992 and was rebranded to add TV in 2017. It quickly became a wildly popular yearly event but like most awards shows has suffered in the face of cord cutting and last year the strike. Now it seems Paramount is rethinking how it wants air this award show by pushing it into 2025.

The exact date for the relaunch and the new format are unknown right now.
