Prices on everything are going up—from the grocery store to your utilities! Spectrum and DIRECTV both raised prices on their TV services twice in one year. Now Paramount’s CFO Naveen Chopra said on Wednesday at the Morgan Stanley media and telecom conference.
“When we look at the business going forward, we do anticipate future price increases,” Chopra said, according to a report from Yahoo Finance.
Last year Paramount+ bundled Showtime into its premium ad-free plan and raised the price $2 a month.
Streaming services are facing many of the same challenges that cable TV companies are now: higher costs to buy and make content, which drives up prices.
Streaming services are also losing money and can only rely on investors for so long before they need to turn a profit. This also drives up the cost of streaming services.
The last big factor is a weak ad market that has seen advertisers paying less for ads compared to prior years, which has also forced streaming services to raise prices to address this issue.
Put together and you can see why Paramount is already thinking about the next price hike.
There is no word as to when or by how much the next price hike will be, but it’s already at least been thought about.
